Valletta - Post Report Question and Answers

Are qualified veterinarians and/or good kennel services available? Do animals need to be quarantined upon entry to the country? Are there other considerations regarding pets that are particular to this country?

Good vets and haven't had to use kennel services. No quarantine. To me, it seems like Malta would be hard for dogs with the lack of green space to run and the constant fireworks. The Maltese LOVE cats, though; there are cat villages set up in every town and the feral cats are fed, watered, and loved. I did not take a pet to post, but many people did. Quality vets are readily available in Malta, as are pet stores. I don't know the related costs or quarantine issues. Not all housing allows pets, so if you want to bring a pet, you must be very clear on your housing survey about that point. - May 2023

Yes. Check the regs for pets. It's all EU standards and the Maltese follow them to the letter. Quite extensive prep needed. - Sep 2016

No quarantine. Good veterinary care. No kennels to speak of, but you could hire a sitter or ask co-workers to help out. Pets are widely adored by the Maltese, from dogs/cats to a wide love of caged birds. - Jan 2014
