Valletta - Post Report Question and Answers

Do you have any recommendations regarding mobile phones? Did you keep your home-country plan or use a local provider?

My main mobile phone was provided by the embassy. I had some minor difficulty trying to get a functioning cell line for a visitor; the company tried to lure me into paying for a month-to-month plan when I had clearly paid for a single month upfront and did not use more than a week. This was a bit of a trouble, but resolved with the help of a Maltese colleague; it is the only experience I have of mobile phones in-country. - May 2023

Bring an unlocked phone, get a sim card, T-mobile works decently well. - Oct 2018

Vodafone is the best. GO Mobile is decent and what the Embassy uses (we switched to GO from Vodafone to save money, but the service is not as good and I'm sure we don't save money. My wife's Vodafone service package was exactly the same as my official phone and it was cheaper). Vodafone also has LTE service in more areas than GO. - Sep 2016

We brought smart phones and got plans activated with no problem. The main carriers are GO, Melita and Vodaphone. Most also offer bundles with home services/tv/internet. - Jan 2014

Widely available with pre-pay or contract plans. - Feb 2010

Find out what company your friends use -- most plans have free calling to selected numbers within the same plan. - Jul 2009
