Caracas - Post Report Question and Answers

What are some interesting/fun things to do in the area? Can you recommend any “hidden gems"?

In Caracas, strolling or running in Parque del Este, visiting the hummingbirds and flowers at the Topetepuy gardens, visiting galleries and shops in El Hatillo, getting a massage at La Hacienda in La Trinidad, going to see a 4D movie at San Ignacio mall. - May 2015

Angel Falls, amazing beaches, a South American "safari" region. - Apr 2015

Eat dinner in Las Mercedes, go to the islands and beaches, Angel Falls, climb the nearby mountains, golf, baseball. - Sep 2013

El Avila (either cable car or hiking); El Hatillo for a 1/2 day trip; plenty of shopping malls. I'm one who gets too frustrated with traffic, crime and whatever else would eventually spoil my excursion, and I gave up on exploring things pretty early on. - Aug 2012

There are not plenty of opportunities, but there some: travel inside the country and outside to the Caribbean islands, movie theaters, plenty of good (but expensive) restaurants in town, petting zoo for kids, hike up the Avila, visit glass factories. - Mar 2012

There are a few groups that come to perform, but often they are in scary parts of the city where you don't want to go at night. The British International Group is a nice spouse group that has activities. There are a lot of nice restaurants. - Mar 2011

We plan to do the Angel Falls trip before we leave. It is safest and more enjoyable to just leave the country when you have vacation time. - Jan 2011

Leave Venezuela and go to the Carribean. - Oct 2010

Angel falls, Morrocoy, Canaima National Park. - Sep 2010

El Avila (do the Teleferico once in a large group, but go back again in a 4x4 and visit the restaurants) in the Caracas area, and Los Roques, Angel Falls, and Merida outside Caracas - Mar 2010

Dream about going home. Complaining about how much this place stinks. - Mar 2010

Restaurants, bars, clubs, beach trips, hiking up the Avila, Angel Falls, and exploiting the gasoline the government subsidizes (~3 cents a gallon). - Feb 2009

In Caracas? Movies, malls, restaurants. Venezuela is a great country for nature lovers who are willing to "rough it," but Caracas is not a fun city in any respect. - Nov 2008
