What are some typical ways to socialize, either with local people or with other expatriates? Are there groups or clubs that you can recommend?

There are nice restaurants, bars, and clubs. - May 2015

One can have a rich social life. It is what you make of it. - Apr 2015

Lots of places to go at night -- some are off-limits though. Americans and other expats get together frequently to entertain at home and in apartment common areas. The social life is active here. - Sep 2013

Dinners out at restaurants or with friends. Daytime bbq's and birthday parties happen a lot around here. If your child is invited to a birthday party on a weekend, it is assumed that the entire family will come and make a day of it. - Aug 2012

Many parties amongst expats, great social life. People mostly entertain at their houses, most apartment buildings have a common area that can be rented for entertaining. - Mar 2012

Get-togethers in people's homes. - Jan 2011

In-home entertaining is the way to, although there are decent clubs and restaurants. The pervasive violence in the city makes this a tough choice, though. Every month the embassy publishes a list of crimes committed against employees, fmailes and friends, and every month it includes car jackings, muggings and some violent crime. Recently an embassy employee had his car shot up when leaving a nightclub. - Oct 2010

Going out to dinner is fairly cheap (at the black market rate). American first-run movies are often available. - Sep 2010

Mostly in apartments. There are a few decent restaurants, though customer service is poor. - Mar 2010

Nice night clubs and bars but you are taking a grave risk by staying out late. - Mar 2010

Venezuelans love to party, and there are plenty of bars and restaurants to accommodate. - Feb 2009

If you like clubbing and barhopping, Caracas is great. Otherwise, some dinner parties and smaller events, but spending 2 hours in traffic to go 5 miles is a tremendous disincentive to socializing. - Nov 2008
