Seoul - Post Report Question and Answers

Are qualified veterinarians and/or good kennel services available? Do animals need to be quarantined upon entry to the country? Are there other considerations regarding pets that are particular to this country?

Yes, there are qualified veterinarians here. There is no quarantine for dogs or cats. - Mar 2022

Lots of options. Ask in Embassy Facebook pages for specifics. - Feb 2020

I dont' have any pets...but kennels are really a thing here. I have only seen them on the army bases. Korean people tend to leave their pets chained up outside or in cars. If you travel you will need to make arrangements with coworkers to watch your pet. - Feb 2016

Not sure. I would assume so. - Jul 2015

Not sure. - Jan 2014

Yes! You must take care of this in the U.S., whether its a cat or dog. You'll need a minimum 3 month lead time to get all the tests, records, and results that the S. Korean gov't wants. - Sep 2013

Our pets did not need to be quarantined and the processing through customs is very simple, if you prepare in advance and have the proper health certificate/vaccinations. - Jan 2011

No, if your papers are proper. Rabies protection has to be within a certain time frame, and a certificate of good health has to be current upon arrival. - Dec 2010

Very briefly. The US Embassy has a customs and procurement specialist that will facilitate the entry of pets upon arrival. Be prepared to pay a cash fee and have paperwork ready prior to arrival. If you're with the US Embassy, this could not be any more efficient. - Sep 2009
