Bamako - Post Report Question and Answers

How do you send and receive your letters and package mail? Are local postal facilities adequate?

I have not used local postal facilities and would guess they're not reliable. The embassy mail room handles pouch and DPO, sending and receiving. - Apr 2017

Embassy personnel rely on DPO.It is generally fast for inbound packages, but it takes slightly longer to get items out of Mali. I have used the local post, and find it to be reliable. It will take very long for you to get your packages, though. - Oct 2010

All we have is the pouch, although DPO has supposedly been "just a month or so away" since we got here over a year ago. Pouch takes about 2 weeks for stuff to get here and anywhere from 2-6 weeks to get to the East Coast from here. - Sep 2009
