Bamako - Post Report Question and Answers

What is the overall climate: is it extremely hot or cold, wet or dry, at any time of year, for example?

Hot! April - July, hot and wet (rainy season). Aug-Oct just plain hot. Nov-Jan, not quite as hot, and dry. Feb-April dry and hot. - Apr 2017

Sun year round! June - September is the rainy season (and mango season!) when thunderstorms roll in/out a few times a week. They never last long though and usually the sun comes out quickly. Rainy season = a lot of mosquitos though. September - December is great. Starts getting cooler, fewer mosquitos. December - February is "winter" where the daily temperature gets to high 70s/ low 80s F. February - June is the hot season and temperatures can get up to 110F. It's thankfully a dry heat and nothing too overwhelming (some people have compared it to Phoenix in the summer). And fewer bugs then! - Aug 2014

Mali's climate is harsh and extreme. From June-November it is hot, humid, and rains daily. The rain tends to be thunderstorms, not an all-day cloudy drizzle variety. Outside of those months it doesn't rain, period. Nov-Feb is "cool" (highs in 80s, lows in 70s) and very pleasant. Feb-June is unpleasant. It gets progressively hotter until it starts raining again. In April it averages about 115 F every day. - Jul 2011

Hot during the whole year, but dry. Rainy season from July to August when it becomes humid but the air is fresher. Really hot during April/May (getting close to 40 Celsius in the capital). In December and January you have the coolest months. - Jul 2011

It is either hot or uncomfortably hot every single day of the year. The cool season just means that it is slightly more comfortable at night. You will probably need to sleep with the AC on most nights. - Oct 2010

There are two seasons, extremely hot and wet season. Rainy season is from June through August. After that, all you get is dry air. There's the extremely hot season around april and may which goes past 120 degrees at times - May 2010

Rainy from May-Oct, "Cool" from Oct-Feb, HOT Mar-April. - Sep 2009

Hot and very hot. Hottest months, March, April, and May. - Apr 2009

June-October is the rainy and hot season. The rest of the year is dry and hot, but it's a dry heat and not any worse than, say, Arizona. - Feb 2009

Hot most of the time. After you acclimate, cool season nights can feel cool. Hot season (starts mid-Feb, goes to late summer, is very hot and dry (high 90s to 100 usually, going to 110 or so) .Rainy season late summer to November is hot and more humid with fabulous rainstorms (if you like rain, you'll love this season). Cool season from November or so through mid-Feb. Still hits the 90s, but some days might only hit the 80s and nights go into the 70s - quite lovely, really. - Feb 2009

Wet, rainy season starts in the summer and ends in October, followed by a cooler winter season, then a hot, dry dusty season. - Jan 2009
