Are local buses, trams, trains or taxis safe and affordable?
This is definitely a personal vehicle city. There are local buses but we are not allowed to use them. There are taxis but they aren't prevalent like large cities. Uber is available. - Jun 2023
Not safe. You can use Uber, which is extremely cheap throughout Mexico. I have heard instances of racism by drivers and that sometimes they demand extra payment in cash. - Sep 2022

Although there are all sorts of cars here, a car with clearance is recommended to safely and reliably get around. Many people have RAV4s, Highlanders, and 4Runners. Car service is available for cars who are diplomatically registered. Many people drive up to Tucson for car service, as well. Uber is available. Other local transport not recommended. - Aug 2022

Forget public transportation in Hermosillo. Buses are unsafe, unreliable and extremely inconvenient. There are no passenger trains or light rail. Taxis are expensive and sometimes don't show up when you call them. Having your own vehicle is a necessity. - Dec 2009
