Hermosillo - Post Report Question and Answers
What kind of vehicle(s) including electric ones do you recommend bringing to post, given the terrain, infrastructure, availability of parts, burglary/carjacking risks, etc.? What kind of car or vehicles do you advise not to bring?
I wouldn't bring anything nice. Potholes are common, and they do serve a benefit of keeping traffic so slow that you're unlikely to get into a serious accident. A fender bender is a realistic possibility, as are pieces of debris that may blemish your paint job or windshield. You can get by with any car really, though I would suggest doing your best to avoid using any repair services locally. They either lack the parts or the experience that you might find in the U.S. - Jun 2025
I would refrain from bringing an electric car. I haven't seen a gas station that can accommodate an electric car and if you were to have car problems I don't know how the car would be fixed/charged. That being said, someone at post had a Tesla and did just fine. Generally speaking, there are unmarked speed bumps and potholes throughout Mexico. I'd recommend a car with high clearance that you don't mind getting dinged up. Leave behind your dream car and/or ostentatious car in the U.S. I also don't recommend a black SUV with tinted windows. All of the major car brands (Hyundai, Mazda, Subaru, Honda, Mercedes, BMW, Ford, Chevrolet, GM, Cadillac, etc.) have dealerships in Hermosillo. - Sep 2024
You will absolutely want to bring a car. And possibly two cars if you have two drivers. This city is built for personal vehicles and you'll see every kind of car on the road. From the huge Ford pick-up trucks to EVs. Really, anything is fine and you won't stand out. During summer monsoon season the streets can fill with water. But plenty of people drive sedans. - Jun 2023
