What types of jobs do most expatriate spouses/partners have? Locally based or telecommuting? Full-time or part-time? Can you comment on local salary scales?
Local salaries are low...most partners don't work or just volunteer. Brazil is difficult to work in the local economy if you are not fluent in Portuguese. - Oct 2019

You need a work permit - we do have a bilateral agreement for diplomatic spouses - but even then it is difficult, as you need great Portuguese, and so many highly qualified people here are fluent in both Portuguese and English and usually something else. Salaries won't be as high. - Jun 2010
