Quito - Post Report Question and Answers

What have been the highlights of your time in this country? Best trips or experiences?

I love the numerous rode trips that are within a couple of hours of Quito! Termas de Papallacta is a magical place as is Mindo in the cloud forest. We've yet to make it to the Galapagos as it's quite expensive and I'm a bit overwhelmed by the travel options, though we had a great trip into the Amazon, and there are wonderful coastal towns too. Ecuador's natural beauty is truly awesome! - Jul 2023

I cannot emphasize enough how amazing the outdoor adventures are in Quito. It is a nature lovers paradise. Within a few hours you can travel from the mountains, to coast, to jungle. We went to the Galapagos Islands, to the Amazon Jungle, and to beautiful beaches and the cloud forest. We saw amazing birds, iguanas, monkeys, tortoises, hundreds of waterfalls, and gorgeous views everywhere you look. Great hiking, mountain biking, river rafting, and exploring. We also saw ruins of ancient civilizations and hot springs. If you love the outdoors this place will blow your mind. - Jul 2023

We have had a blast touring Ecuador. We have hiked a number of absolutely beautiful mountains/volcanoes within a couple hours of Quito....the Amazon, Mindo, Baños, Mashpi, the Galapagos, Otavalo/Cotacachi, Papallacta, Quilatoa, Cuenca, the coast are all fun and interesting and worth doing. It's a very outdoorsy post. - Jul 2019

You can get anywhere from Quito. The beach, hot springs, Amazon, cloud forest, volcanoes are all within a few hours and all with very different environments and animals. Flights within Ecuador are very cheap, often less then $100 round trip (excluding the Galapagos). There is no reason to be bored here. - Jul 2018

Ecuador is very accessible to tourists, take advantage of this to enjoy the country during your tour. Pretty much everything is within a couple hours drive. Coast, beach, boating, farms, remote villages, plantations, mountains, camping, rafting, fishing, zip lining. Great for the outdoorsy crowd. Galapagos is very expensive so don't harbor any illusions about going there more than once or twice. That said, it is worth it. - Mar 2017

Traveling in the country, mainly... Exploring in general always results in some great find. I play a lot of soccer, which is great here. And I love the beach, and there is some beach for whatever you're looking for... Relaxing, family vacation, scuba, surf, party, anything! - Aug 2014

Went to the Galapagos, camped alongside a volcano, river rafted, spent many holidays at nice beach areas. - Jul 2012

We took a trip over New Year's to Sacha Lodge in the rainforest - that was one of the best trips I've ever done in my life. We saw so many animals and learned so much about the Amazon basin. - Jan 2011

Otavalo market, Galapagos Islands cruise, jungle river rafting (the most dense area of rivers for rafting at all levels in the world), butterfly gardens, caving, Papallacta geothermal springs, zip lining, hiking and mountain climbing, the historic Old City, TeleferiQo cable cars up Volcan Pichincha for city views, easy travel to Peru for Machu Picchu & Cuzco touring. - May 2010
