Mexico City - School Report Question and Answers

Are Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) courses available in upper grades? If this is an IB school, is the full diploma required of all students?

IB is available but I find you need to do your due diligence on this. Carefully consider the teachers teaching. In Mexico, the HS teachers do not have to have ANY teaching experience, just a degree in the field they are teaching. Meaning a science teacher may be a scientist that knows nothing about IB or teaching. - Oct 2020

A. The Secondary kids in grades F4 and up are part of the IGSCE program and then IB which are very academically challenging and varied. Kids can choose from certain electives like Art, Drama, various Sciences, Business studies, languages etc. We're very impressed with the course offerings and how our son is progressing with the program. - Jan 2016

B - There is an IB program in the high school. I feel the IB program in the elementary grades (PYP) is very rarely implemented well. Greengates is moving away from the PYP, so I see the future lack of IB as a plus, though unfortunately their chosen replacement appears to be similarly flawed. - Jun 2014

French Baccalaureat is sort of the ancester of IB. - Jul 2011
