Abidjan - Post Report Question and Answers

Are there any particular mental health issues that tend to crop up at post, such as Seasonal Affective Disorder (winter blues)?

I had no idea there were parts of Africa where you could go months and not see the sun. I am not particularly happy to have found one haha! Indeed, we arrived in August and did not see sun until late October. It is now May and the sun is starting to leave us again, two gray days in a row....lots of rain. So, SAD could be an issue. Also, if you do not speak French, you might feel very isolated. - May 2020

No SADs as it is always hot, so in general none that I am aware of. U.S. Mission personnel do get a bit angsty as it isn't easy to get to the US, and we have limited mobility around the country, thus leaving one to feel a bit trapped within Abidjan. - Feb 2020

Just the usual homesickness-type stuff. - Mar 2017
