Nothing related to the city, but Fatima Mernissi, a Moroccan sociologist, has written several wonderful nonfiction books about her childhood in Fez, which is very similar and an hour away: Scheherazade Goes West: Different Cultures, Different Harems , Dreams of Trespass: Tales of a Harem Girlhood . Morocco since 1830: A History is an excellent country study of Morocco today. - Aug 2006


Paul Bowles, an American who lived in Tangier for 50 years, wrote a score of fiction about Morocco, the best of the bunch being: The Sheltering Sky (P.S.) A Hundred Camels in the Courtyard. Great Moroccan authors of fiction include:Leila Abouzeid, NaTahar Ben Jelloun, Mohammed Mrabet. - Aug 2006
