Realistically, Chinese cinema is vast and diverse, with far too many options to list here. Particularly if you're studying Mandarin, there are a host of great movies to check out, some about southern China and some not. My advice would be to explore and see what you like, as Chinese (not to mention Hong Kong) cinema has all kinds of options. More generally, Foshan, about an hour outside of Guangzhou, was Bruce Lee's ancestral home, so there are always his movies, as well. - Aug 2014
