Are there any particular mental health issues that tend to crop up at post, such as Seasonal Affective Disorder (winter blues)?
Norwegians call the worst of the winter "The Dark Time" and it is true. You need to get outside whenever there is sun on either side of the winter solstice, and take Vitamin D supplements. And get a happy lamp. And plan a week in Spain/Greece/Dubai sometime each winter. - May 2026
This is not a good post for someone who suffers from SAD. No one in our family has it so it's not an issue for us, but even then, there are times that we find ourselves craving the light and warmth of sunshine. A quick trip away solves that for us. - Dec 2022

The winter darkness is a big deal for a lot of folks. You have to be good about taking your vitamin D. We all came back to the US with deficiencies, despite taking supplements. Being outdoors as much as possible during the winter was helpful. - Jan 2020
