What types of jobs do most expatriate spouses/partners have? Locally based or telecommuting? Full-time or part-time? Can you comment on local salary scales?
Local salaries are LOW. Shockingly low if you think of Japan as modern and top GDP country. Some spouses work as teachers or teaching English. The salaries at the international schools are very low compared to others in the region. - May 2026
Interesting question. One Eligible Family Member (EFM) works as a drum instructor. Another gives piano and other instrument lessons. Two work at the Consulate. All are part-time. - May 2021
