What kind of vehicle(s) including electric ones do you recommend bringing to post, given the terrain, infrastructure, availability of parts, burglary/carjacking risks, etc.? What kind of car or vehicles do you advise not to bring?
It is easier to buy a car in Japan that suits the right hand and right side drive. There are kei (light weight) cars that benefit from lower tolls. Many e-bikes are sold for getting around town on a bicycle. I would not bring a large car as the roads are narrow and parking spots are small. - May 2026
