Is this a good city for single people? For couples? For families? Why or why not?
It has been hard for singles from what I hear, as it can be difficult to meet people organically. Some have said they feel lonely or isolated. Couples and families seem to enjoy the region more, as it is safe and there are a lot of travel opportunities. - May 2026

Good for families and couples. Good for single males. Not good for single females. Most Western men here want to date Japanese women, and most Japanese men prefer Japanese women as well. Some spouses have had trouble if they are not Japanese. The Japanese tend to be very insular. - Aug 2006
