Guayaquil - Post Report Question and Answers

What have been the highlights of your time in this country? Best trips or experiences?

Trips to the mountains. - May 2025

Better and cheaper produce and seafood than you will find in the US. Biodiversity. Cocoa farms. It’s never hard to find a cold coconut. It’s always warm enough to swim outdoors. The beach is 1.25-4 hours away depending on where you go. Amazing nature and travel opportunities. Surfing, scuba, whale-watching, paragliding, are all available at the coast. There is a hike at Cerrro Blanco where you can see howler monkeys within 10 min from housing. The biodiversity and bird watching are incredible. Amazing travel opportunities to explore the Galapagos, the Andes, hot springs, colonial gems like Cuenca and Quito, the Amazon and the Pacific Ocean. Surfing, scuba, whale-watching, paragliding, are all available at the coast. - May 2025

Visiting other cities and enjoying nature and fresh air. - May 2025

Galapagos excursions by land or sea are top notch and much more affordable than rates from the US. Cuenca, Manta, beach towns, Quito and other cities within the country are well worth one or more trips. Trips to Columbia, Panama and Miami are affordable and very interesting. Trips elsewhere in South America are harder to plan and more expensive than expected, but still well worth the effort and cost. - Aug 2022

Honestly, whenever I left Guayaquil. Also Galapagos! - Jun 2022

There are a lot of fantastic travel opportunities in Ecuador: volcanoes, mountains, the Amazon, beautiful national parks, hiking, waterfalls, natural hot springs, and the Galapagos. Within about 6-8 hours driving or an hour or less flight you can access pretty much all the major sights in the country. - Oct 2020

The travel in Ecuador is incredible. Galapagos, beaches, big cities, indigenous communities, mountain towns, rainforest. There is so much to do. - Feb 2019

I think the best part of the experience was exploring outside of Guayaquil. Going to Cuenca, Quito, Baños, Mindo, Puyo, Mishahuaí, Amazon, the beaches, Isla de Plata, etc. - Jun 2013

Travel to Colombia, Chile, Peru, etc. Getting fluent in Spanish as hardly anyone speaks English. - May 2013

Seeing a spectacularly diverse country and eating cheap fruits/vegetables/fresh herbs. - Jan 2012

ceviche with seafood-a popular local cold soup; Cuenca, a very nice European-like city; and quiet beautiful beaches like Libertador Bolivar, San Pablo, Mantanita. - Jan 2012
