Guayaquil - Post Report Question and Answers

What typical restaurants, food delivery services, and/or takeout options are popular among expatriates?

Everything is available and by-in-large, quite good. Restaurants are more expensive in Guayaquil than the rest of the country. Great variety. All kinds of delivery options exist. We eat sushi, pizza, burgers, Chinese, Spanish, Peruvian food in addition to the wonderful seafood options available in this port city (shrimp, crab, fish) - Aug 2022

There are a handful of restaurants nearby the housing that people tend to use, none of them are particularly good except for one ceviche place. Come to Guayaquil with your expectations lowered when it comes to food. After two years here I gave up looking for new restaurants. Of the 50-100 places I estimate I have been to, I can count the number of ones worth going to one one hand. - Jun 2022

UberEats, Glovo, and many restaurants have their own delivery person. There's pizza, seafood, Ecuadorian food, very basic Chinese, one good Indian place, a couple okay sushi places. - Oct 2020

Food in Ecuador is pretty bland. It is not a culinary destination. However, there are a few gems hidden in Guayaquil: one Indian restaurant, Korean, a really good dim sum spot, a few trendy cafes, Cuban, Venezuelan. It's pretty limited, though, if you want to go beyond local food. The star of Ecuadorian food in this region is seafood, particularly shrimp and octopus. - Feb 2019

McDonald's, Burger King, KFC, Carl's Jr. Prices are not too high. - Jun 2013

Regular American ones. Cheap street food, like empanadas, patacones, rice and beans. Not many ethnic choices are available. - May 2013

McDonald's, Burger King, Carls Jr., Chilis, el Capi (local burger joint, really good!), Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, Dominoes, Subway, Quiznos, KFC, etc. - Jan 2012

Americn fast food like McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut, Dominos,Papa Johns, , Subway. Restaurants like Chillis, Hardrock cafe, and Hooters. Other decent restaurants are Caracol Azul, Hilton Colon hotel and Oro Verde hotel are nice but expensive. La Parrilla Del Nato is a good local steakhouse, with 900g or bigger steaks. There are some good seafood restaurants. Chinese foods are prepared using different recipes and aren't quite as good as those in the States in my opinion. - Jan 2012

There are plenty of fast-food places and some decent restaurants but not a lot of ethnic (i.e. non-Ecuadorian). Prices are cheaper than the United States. - Aug 2011
