Casablanca - Post Report Question and Answers
What is the relative size of the expatriate community? How would you describe overall morale among expatriates?
Since we're at the Consulate it is a small community. There are some expats but not like in other posts where you have all of the embassies and intl organizations. However, the morale is high at the consulate and the community has been great. You can also make friends with local Moroccans with a bit of effort - i.e. joining a local sports club or getting involved in a school. Don't expect to be close to those at the Embassy community as both are very separate for the most part. - Mar 2026
There are a few but they tend to be insular. Morale is good, but it is difficult to break into their circles. - Sep 2022
It is what you make of it, but Covid restrictions have affected everybody differently, as visit from friend or family from abroad are all but impossible at this time, and most club and sports infrastructures have been closed for a long time. - Jun 2021
medium sized expat community due to GWA school. Moral is low to decent. - Feb 2016
Small-medium: outside of the Consulate community, it's mostly teachers at the various American schools. Morale varies, but tends towards the negative. Post had 2 or 3 curtailments in the year before we arrived. - Jul 2014
A goodly amount; at the Consulate, about 20 American officers plus their families (maybe 30+ in total currently). Morale wildly varies. Right now there is an undercurrent of dissatisfaction, mostly with the general reality of what it's like to live here, but there is a segment that really loves it. Pretty typical I'd imagine. - May 2014
Many Europeans and lots of tourists. - Jun 2012
Mostly private business types, not as large as Rabat. - Apr 2010
There is a small diplomatic corps in the city serving several consulates. There are also some American businessmen and women as well as lots of French expats. - Mar 2008
