Asuncion - Post Report Question and Answers

What do you wish you had known about this particular city/country before moving there?

Know Spanish...and if you don't know it, start learning. Most things people would want to do or get involved in require some Spanish knowledge. Also have a list of 1-3 things you want to learn or practice because high quality instruction is available at affordable prices. - Aug 2022

To me, this should be a hardship post. I have been at many posts that were hardship. I say hardship because of limited medical facilities and poor infrastructure. I have experienced more power outages here than any other post I have been. Power often goes out well before the storm hits or for no reason. All this and generators are not allowed. I have experienced numerous water outages during the dryer/cooler season. Dengue fever is bad here but the embassy does all it can to protect us. - Jan 2021

Paraguayans are great people unless you put them in a car. Unlike most capital cities there is not a lot of English spoken by the day to day people. - Jun 2019

How to find out about more local events. Advertising is really hit-or-miss. A lot is on Facebook or word of mouth. I know something's coming up, but only hear about it after it's happened. Poor-planning on my part, but I wish there were an easier access to local events. - Aug 2018

No huge surprises moving here. - Jun 2018

I wish I had known more about the road conditions. - Apr 2015

Been able to speak / understand more Spanish. Also how insualar Paraguay is; it is a family oriented / focused country and that can make it hard to socialize outside of work. - Aug 2014
