Stockholm - Post Report Question and Answers

Is high-speed home Internet access available? How long does it typically take to install it after arrival?

Yes. - Dec 2020

Yes - embassy helps you get setup. Connections are fast and not too expensive. Most homes are connected with fiber-optics. I think we are getting over 100mbs speeds so we stream everything. - Sep 2020

Yes, you need a person number to set up any service in Stockholm. - May 2020

The internet here has been reliable and somewhat reasonably priced. We used ComHem for both cable and internet and the price is comparable with that in any major US city. HOWEVER: You can't get anything done in Sweden until you have your "personnummer." Nada. Zip. Zilch. You can't get a bank account, and thus can't sign up for services that require a Swedish credit card. The embassy seems to have gotten better at offering dongles that work for newcomers, but don't expect to have internet at home for at least six weeks. - Jan 2017

Internet is quite fast, depending on your plan and building, commensurate to what you would spend in the U.S. - May 2015
