Matamoros - Post Report Question and Answers

Are qualified veterinarians and/or good kennel services available? Do animals need to be quarantined upon entry to the country? Are there other considerations regarding pets that are particular to this country?

There are vets in both Matamoros and Brownsville. While generally this is a good place to have a pet, one must be careful of the stray dogs and guard dogs which many locals in Matamoros keep in their yard. I would highly recommend walking your dog away from any homes that have aggressive looking guard dogs behind a fence. You can walk on the river trail by the Rio Grande or take your dog across to Brownsville to walk in the numerous parks there. - Aug 2021

No quarantine but do have your pets paperwork in order. Dogs seemed to be well liked and they is plenty of dog and cat food at the 2 local supermarkets. We use a vet in Texas, but have heard there is a good vet and also a pet hotel that are used by mission personnel. - Apr 2018

Yes. We do not have a pet but we have heard good things about the service that is available here to pet owners. Cheap and good. - Aug 2016

No, easy to drive them across, and there are a couple of good vets in Brownsville. - Aug 2015
