What are some typical ways to socialize, either with local people or with other expatriates? Are there groups or clubs that you can recommend?

No organized clubs that I am aware of, though the CLO does a good job of organizing regular social events and get togethers. Consulate families frequently host social events. - Nov 2018

We like to sit on our front porch and watch the neighborhood go by. We also grill regularly and invite the neighborhood families to join. There are occasionally expat meet-ups and themed parties at the city's hotels. It all depends on where in the city you are. Expat gatherings are very common. There are movie theatres with limited English movies showing, but they are there. Shopping at the various malls. - May 2012


There are a few expat nightclubs, and the international hotels have entertainment. There are a handful of small nightclubs catering to locals, but be advised that as is often the case in Asia, even the high-end ones are firetraps with few exits. - Oct 2010


Whatever you make of it. Tons of restaurants, many big, modern shopping malls, first rate movie theaters that charge about $2, some nightclubs, too. Not much in the way of fine arts/museums, however. - Aug 2009
