Extremely! Metros and buses (modern, clean, efficient) cost 40 cents CAD (but are really full at rush hour). We call taxis through the Didi app (it's like Uber, but faster and cheaper). I usually get a "Premium" car. The 45-minute ride to Tianfu airport costs around $35 CAD. Most rides around the city are less than 10 or 15$. - Aug 2026

Local taxis and buses are relatively safe. The metro is good, but not very extensive yet. Uber is here, and it is quite cheap. - May 2016

Taxis are affordable compared to other big cities but lack seat belts and generally reek of smoke---not that that ever stopped us from taking them. The metro system opened with one North-South line while we lived there. For getting to some of the tourist sites, it was a useful option but the addition of more lines to the system over the next few years will make it far more useable. Buses and trains are plentiful though often crowded and you'll need some confident Chinese to navigate them at first. - Aug 2013
