Istanbul - Post Report Question and Answers

Knowing what you know now, would you still move to this city?

I think so - maybe with more mental and medicinal preparation. The hospital experiences, which were traumatic, really colored our experience. - Aug 2021

Yes - many great qualities make the challenges worthwhile. - Sep 2017

Absolutely. But not before I see the rest of the world. - Oct 2010

Absolutely! - Jan 2010

No - Jan 2010

I would, but I'd find a way to drive less and work less, so I could experience and enjoy more. - Dec 2009

Istanbul is a great city with so much to offer, but the consulate has managed to make it a very difficult place to live. Be expected to pay for a lot of work-related costs out of your own pocket because they don't want to spend the money (i.e., an official cell phone). Expect to make a lot of group trips to the commissary in Ankara because of the high cost of living. Expect to fix a lot of the broken things in your apartment out of your own pocket because they claim to not have the money to fix it. - Dec 2009
