Istanbul - Post Report Question and Answers

How do you send and receive your letters and package mail? Are local postal facilities adequate?

The DPO was great, and Amazon deliveries usually took a few weeks but were very reliable. We used local postal facilities once when my kid left a beloved toy at a resort. We were shocked that the resort found the toy, and actually mailed it back to us and it arrived a few days later. People don't usually use the local post though. - Aug 2021

DPO is available. The employee association store can facilitate FedEx and DHL at a discount. - Sep 2017

Through the consulate APO (although as of this writing, it might be DPO; they were moving in that direction when I left). - Oct 2010

by post or delviery service to my work address - Jan 2010

APO which is now DPO and of uneven service. Mail sometimes 3 days and sometimes 1 month - Jan 2010

Through the office. A little slow but not bad. - Dec 2009

APO or pouch at the consulate. Be warned, however, that theft is a growing problem. Pouch mail is not insured, so remember that before sending items of high value. Average turn around time for receiving something is between 1 and 2 weeks. Sending can easily take over a month. - Dec 2009
