What kinds of gyms or other sports/workout facilities are available? Are they expensive?

I attended a lot of Zumba and other fitness classes at Juthoor Studios. It was wonderful. For example, the cost was comparable to US prices at spinning. - Jan 2022

There's a small-but-good embassy at the gym. A popular option is to become a member of one of the hotels, and then you can use the gym and other facilities. It's expensive, but worth it if you actually use the gym, pool, etc. - Dec 2018

The embassy has a very small but well-equipped gym in the basement. There are several CrossFit places in town. And there is a Gold's Gym in one of the malls. I think they are pretty expensive. - Feb 2018

There are many gyms out in town which are pricey- min $100/month. We use the gym at the US embassy. It is relatively small in size, but has almost anything you might need (2 thread mills, 1 elliptical, 1 rowing machine, bench press, squat rack, bicep curl machine etc. etc.) - Aug 2017

The Embassy has a decent gym for employees to use. There are also memberships available through some of the large hotels here to use their gyms and pools. There are a few kickboxing/MMA gyms, one cross fit box, yoga studios, a few regular gyms, and a boot camp on the beach group. - Oct 2014

Yes. The embassy has a modest gym, the Diplomatic Club has a nice set of machines and a few of the hotels have good workout facilities which one can join for a fee. - Jun 2012

The embassy has a small gym. - May 2012

Yes. The U.S. Embassy has an OK gym, and there are smaller private gyms available. - Aug 2011

Yes. - Feb 2011

They can be found in hotels, but are quite expensive. Just before I left, an all-women's gym opened up near my house...so there should be more there now. - Apr 2010

There is a small, cramped gym at the embassy but if your military you get a paid for membership to a five star hotel to use its facilities. Anybody else 1000 U.S. for the year. This was a major sticking point with the State or non mil people. As the military were getting hazard duty pay and extras like this, while the rest received nothing. COLA was/is horrible and there was/is no differential. This is where I disagree with the last poster and more to follow concerning moral. - Feb 2010

Most expats use the gym at the Intercontinental Hotel, but it's expensive (about 400 rials per year). Some embassy personnel use the well-stocked but somewhat cramped gym in the basement of the Chancery. - Jan 2010

There is a small gym at the Embassy. The Intercontinental Hotel has a gym for members; there are a few other work out gyms around town as well. - Mar 2009
