What is the relative size of the expatriate community? How would you describe overall morale among expatriates?

It was fairly large for a small place. You make friends with all the other embassy folks and expats. Lots of British folk! - Jan 2022

The Western expat community here is fairly large. Between all the oil companies, international schools, and diplomatic missions, there are a lot of expats. Morale is generally very high and most people love it here. - Dec 2018

See previous question. It's large but forget any expectation of that meaning you can have a robust social life. The various communities tend to be very insular. I'd say morale is medium here...people love it or hate it. The families seem to enjoy it the most. The single folks and couples without children not so much. - Feb 2018

Huge. Some say that there is more expats than locals. There is a lot of British and Irish people, Russians and many Eastern Europeans, as well as Indians, Pakistani, Jordanians and Filipinos. Generally, morale is good. - Aug 2017

There are quite a few Brits in country with various oil firms and the Embassy has plenty of people. Overall, life here is easy once you get the hang of it and most people stay many years. - Oct 2014

Pretty large with the majority being TCNs doing all the blue collar labor. The Europeans, Aussies, Americans make up most of the white collar expats. - Feb 2010

Enormous -- 1/3 of the population -- if you include South Asian guest workers. A fairly large number of British and American expats, mostly working for Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), the big state-run oil company, plus other companies supporting the oil industry. - Jan 2010
