Tunis - Post Report Question and Answers

What kinds of gyms or other sports/workout facilities are available? Are they expensive?

Plenty of gyms but I worked out at home and had a trainer come. Trainer was excellent and cost about $13 a class. - Jan 2024

There are some gym chains, which are not that cheap. A PT will be about 40 tnd for an hour. Lots of pools although not that many big lap pools; the US embassy has one and a gym. Aqua-jogging is popular, there are thriving running and triathlon clubs, and lots of football and tennis clubs. Yoga studios. Horse riding is very reasonable. Lots of people get paddle boards or kayaks. Tunisians love hiking and camping and there are numerous societies and clubs. There is also a bouldering centre that have roped climbing routes just outside Tunis. - Jun 2022

If you work in the US Embassy, they have the best pool I have ever seen in any embassy! There is also a nice gym on the grounds. Hotels have small gym facilities and also nice big pools. And, of course, there is the Med, with its calm waters and shallow beach areas. - Nov 2015

Yes. A few different local gyms out in town or at hotels. - Jul 2013

Yes, but they are expensive, I think $100 per month -- and they aren't special. - Jun 2013

The embassy gym is excellent. There are other gyms as well that are not bad. We ran outside a lot - especially along the American Cemetery road in La Marsa. - Jul 2010

The embassy has a gym for American embassy employees. There are several local gyms as well. Additionally, there seems to be an increase of yoga and pilates classes at the school and people's homes lately. There's also a Hash group that runs/walks. - Jan 2010
