Baghdad - Post Report Question and Answers

What is the relative size of the expatriate community? How would you describe overall morale among expatriates?

Most people make the most of this post. Set some personal goals. Boredom and inertia are the biggest challenges. - Apr 2019

Morale depends on the person you are talking to. Some people make the best of things. Some don't. - Jul 2018

Large, and low. Most people are either waiting to leave or are simply here because they couldn't make it in the outside world. - Jan 2016

Very large, and morale is okay for those who try. - Feb 2014

Huge, wretched. - Jan 2014

Around 13,000 currently on the US compound, although that's coming down fast. Within the IZ there's also UNAMI, the Brits, Australians, Italians, and Dutch. All of the embassies (except US) occasionally have happy hours, holiday parties, quiz nights, etc., and it's pretty easy to go. - Jan 2013

There are other embassies in the IZ that have parties...Italians, English, Aussies and a few others. I haven't attended, but I hear that the parties are fun. - Nov 2011

Huge. There are a ton of people here. - Sep 2010

Absolutely huge. There are so many people here it is insane. There are always so many people hanging around the public areas around the palace that I wonder where I should work to have that much time off here. - Aug 2008
