Ouagadougou - Post Report Question and Answers

Do you have any other comments?

Ouagadougou is a gem, but not without its downsides, which have increased in the past year. If you're willing to step into the uncertainty of the evolving security situation, it's a good introduction to Africa where the people are friendly and the Embassy works to every extent imaginable to make our lives easier here. - May 2016

This is a hardship post with a small expat community. A positive, friendly attitude is essential! And specifically for the US Embassy community: If you're in a language designated position make sure your spouse learns French too. - Jul 2013

I loved it and I bet if you're going there you'll love it too. Have fun!! - Aug 2008

French is not that difficult to learn, especially if you start with a good, interactive course (like Rosetta Stone and its competitors). If you're coming as a dependent and don't have kids to keep you busy, plan for what you're going to do to keep occupied. Learning French is a good start, but it has its limits. Bring plenty of reading material and plan for getting internet access so you can stay in touch. - Jun 2008
