Managua - Post Report Question and Answers

Are there any unusual problems with insects or other infestations in housing?

We have ants, tarantulas and also occasionally scorpions. We have also had to have a wasp nest destroyed. Mosquitoes here can transmit dengue, and so the government likes to send round noisy trucks to distribute noxious clouds of blue gas to kill the mosquitoes at selected times of the year. - Feb 2024

Ants and some scorpions (GSO will spray your home upon request) I use neem oil and its really helped, then there's the occasional mouse. - Sep 2023

Very little in our apartment. Stand alone houses can sometimes have ants or geckos. - Dec 2021

We haven't had anything worse than a few ants get into our apartment, but some of the houses have had issues with ants, spiders, and/or scorpions. - Jun 2020

Lots of geckos which keep the mosquito population down. Each house is different: some have scorpions, others tarantulas, ants, cockroaches, etc. We have been lucky to only have geckos, maybe two scorpions, one tarantula, limited ants. Many people have iguanas in their backyards and some boas. - Apr 2018

Tiny ants will be permanent residents in your home. There's no stopping them. We kept ALL open food in the fridge or freezer. Mosquitoes are abundant and do carry dengue. Lightweight long sleeved shirts and long pants are handy to have, especially if you're outside at dusk. - Mar 2012
