Are there any unusual problems with insects or other infestations in housing?

No. - Mar 2024

Very few insects from my experience. I have far more at my home in the US. - Aug 2020

In our experience, housing was pretty well sealed against insects. The only time I saw a cockroach inside my residence was when our consumables arrived (I think the roach got in one of the boxes in the port). You will definitely see roaches outside, as well as mosquitos and all other types of critters. - Jul 2020

So many giant roaches. Just get used to killing them. There's also the potential for lots of tiny tiny ants: essentially harmless, but happy to swarm onto any morsel of food you leave out (to say nothing of a full plate of cookies.) Being very tidy can help minimize their presence. - Jun 2019

Not really. I've had a few roaches, but that's about it. - Mar 2018

The usual insect problems given it's a tropical environment. Ants, roaches, and mosquitoes are plentiful. It's important to keep the house clean and to carry some mosquito repellent. - May 2016

Malaria is endemic. Everyone takes some kind of prophylaxis. I haven't seen any roaches in housing though. - Nov 2015

Mosquitoes are the greatest treat to expats and diplomats; malaria medication is a must. There are also roaches and flies, but not in abundance like the malaria-carrying mosquitoes. - Dec 2011
