Tijuana - Post Report Question and Answers

Are preschools available? Day care? Are these expensive? What has been your experience with them, if any? Do the schools provide before- and/or after-school care?

The schools here seem to cost about $3000/year in tuition. Any and all supplies needed will be additional as well as uniforms, and most of the private schools also list the fastest edition iPad as an essential school supply. - Aug 2025

Yes to all. - Oct 2024

I know of one family who sent their kids to a local preschool, but I do not have much information. Similar to housekeepers, nannies are cheaper than the US. but more expensive than other parts of Mexico. - Apr 2023

Preschools are available in Tijuana and are relatively inexpensive. School days are relatively short and few have full-day programs and before or after care. - Nov 2017

Nannies abound. Prices range depending on the education and experience level. Probably from US$350 - $700. Ours was great. She drove too, which is handy because TJ is NOT a walking city. - May 2015

Yes and reasonably priced. - Mar 2015

Yes, although from what I understand, no full day options are available. Parents seem happy with the bilingual private preschools. - Apr 2014

Yes, preschools are expensive. We pay about US$2,800 a year for our toddler. - Feb 2014

Again, Reina Isabel and British American both offer relatively good pre-K programs, with Reina Isabel offering a more flexible Catholic program and BA offering a conservative secular program, and if you are up for the drive San Diego offers every type of preschool imaginable. I do not have personal experience at this age but I know parents in both programs that are satisfied. - Aug 2010

There are a variety of daycare/preschool places. The daycare that my 2-year-old daughter attends is near the current Consulate. The teacher/student ratio is more than what you'd find in the U.S. but the staff seems genuinely concerned about the well-being and development of all the children. - Mar 2008
