What is your housing like? What are typical housing sizes, locations, and commute times for expatriates?

At present, housing for consulate employees is in two locations only. Several apartments including the CG residence are in the Somerset-serviced residences, an extended-stay type apartment hotel with a mall underneath that is about 15 minutes by taxi/car or 30 minutes by bus or metro from the consulate. Families may be assigned to a gated community of apartments, town houses, and detached houses that is in a more suburban setting closer to the international school and about 45 minutes by Metro, 30 minutes by car without traffic from the consulate. - Jul 2021

We lived in a serviced apartment in Hankou, which is downtown and about a 15-minute commute to the Consulate. It was a 4-bedroom serviced apartment that was very nice. We moved out to the "suburbs" to be closer to the international school, and we live in a large house facing a lake. The consulate has arranged housing at another serviced apartment here close to the international school, and there are also houses and townhouses in a couple different complexes. Other expats live in these houses and townhomes, but most expats live in a variety of sizes of high-rise apartments. They are usually individually owned by landlords, so the quality of the furnishings and décor will vary. - Jan 2020

It's all apartments. There are some houses about a 40-minute drive from the centre. - Feb 2008
