Wuhan - Post Report Question and Answers

Are there any particular health concerns? What is the quality of available medical care? What medical conditions typically require medical evacuation?

I have had several gastrointestinal issues even trying to be careful with food, one time severe enough to require antibiotics, but it seems to come with the territory here. There are many hospitals including one large one with an international unit that is between the consulate and the apartment building that offers multifaceted care - I had a checkup for a prior condition and some additional physical therapy there. Facilities are a bit less nice than in the U.S. and the protocols and therapies are sometimes similar and sometimes different but pretty advanced. Only one therapist spoke English though, none of the rest of the doctors or staff did. - Jul 2021

At the moment, there is a new coronavirus spreading from Wuhan, but other than that, the medical care is okay. More expat women are choosing to stay here to have babies. If you know what your problem is, the hospitals and doctors can do procedures and take care of things. They are generally not good at diagnosing problems, though. - Jan 2020

We have used the local hospital a number of times and it has been very good. All doctors speak English and many of the nurses too. - Feb 2008
