Tokyo - Post Report Question and Answers

What is your home city/country? How long is the trip to post from there, with what connections? How easy/difficult is it to travel to this city/country?

I am originally from the West Coast of the U.S., so it was reasonably easy to get back although if you are with the U.S. Government this is not an R&R post, so all tickets to anywhere are out of pocket. There are many direct flights to most major U.S. cities and anywhere in the world (for the most part). To San Francisco or LA it is 9-11 hours, to Washington or New York it is about 13-14 hours. - May 2025

Washington DC, USA. Not difficult direct and connection flight options, 14 to 20 hrs. - Jan 2024

Texas, USA. If you fly through LAX, it's not too bad, about 19 hours door-to-door. Tokyo is a major world city. You can get almost anywhere in the world here, often direct or with just one stop. - Nov 2020

Washington DC , about 15 hour trip - more if you have stopovers. Lots of flight options but it’s not a R&R post so trips home are very expensive at $1500 each. - Mar 2019

USA. Many direct flights to the U.S. but they cost alot. There are no R&Rs so we never traveled home due to the cost for a family with kids - Jun 2018

West coast of the US. 9-10 hour non-stop flight. - Mar 2018

Approximately 24 hour trip, various options to US hubs. Expensive to visit family. There is no R&R and tickets cost about $1,000. - Mar 2017
