Are credit cards widely accepted and safe to use locally? Are ATMs common and do you recommend using them? Are they safe to use?
They are widely accepted.... but aren't always successfully processed so have cash (Lempiras) as a backup. - Mar 2024

Credit cards are accepted everywhere and I've not had any problems using them. We usually take advantage of the ATM at the embassy but there are also ATM "rooms" at the local shopping malls that have a guard. We've used them a couple of times with no issues. I've never had a problem with credit cards. Most restaurants and the grocery stores accept them. I try to pay in cash at restaurants as waiters may take 20 minutes to bring back your credit card receipt. The embassy ATM is usually working and the bank there will cash a check. - Apr 2018
