Tegucigalpa - Post Report Question and Answers

Is it easy to make friends with locals here? Are there any prejudices or any ethnic groups who might feel uncomfortable here?

Hondurans are generally a friendly and welcoming people (unless they are behind the wheel of a car). I'm unaware of any specific prejudices, although my wife said she felt isolated being one of the only Asian people around. - May 2026

We've found it to be easy. One thing to keep in mind that that a lot of the affluent families in Honduras are kind of inconsiderate and entitled so we prefer to hang out with some third country nationals that we've met. - Jan 2024

Yes, if you want to. We've run the gamut of making friends who message you once a month for questions about a friend's visa to befriending locals who are the children of former presidents. Everybody seems to want something from you. My favorite people I've met are the street vendors and service workers. I will treasure some of these friendships when we leave post. - Aug 2023
