What is your housing like? What are typical housing sizes, locations, and commute times for expatriates?
Housing is great! Everybody is in single family homes in gated communities. Houses are typically spacious and large. Some have outdoor space which is typically a patio area and not a grassy yard. As far as I know, all of the communities where housing is located have community pools, common areas, and playgrounds. Hermosillo isn't that large so no house is very far from anything, although not really walking distance. Currently commutes are under 15 minutes. When the consulate moves to the new building (projected summer 2024) the commutes will be even shorter. Traffic and commute are a non-factor at this post. You can drive from one side of the city to other side in about 25 minutes. - Jun 2023
The housing here is great, though they all have their own quirks and issues. My house is a very large two story home with a basement. The basement has some problems with water/flooding, the AC routinely goes out in various rooms, and we have had electrical issues. However, MGT has been responsive and works with the landlord to fix them. The fix is often a bandaid that needs to be reapplied every couple of months, but that's what you get with these types of posts sometimes. I have a very large walk in closet and my kids each have large closets as well. We also have a large storage room that can house all of your pineapple-shaped lamps and ugly sofas. Commutes are all 10-20 minutes depending on the time that you leave, maybe a little bit more with traffic or if you leave later in the morning, but when the NCC opens, commutes will drop by 5-10 minutes. When it rains and there are floods in the street, it can take 30-40 minutes. - Sep 2022
Housing is great. The housing is located close to the old and new consulate. The houses are in gated communities and most of them come with a pool. The houses are a mix of modern and older. They are very spacious. - Sep 2022
Housing can be nice, but the scrutiny when selecting housing with amenities and features that one is often accustomed to in the U.S. often leaves much to be desired (e.g., a full-sized stove to cook a turkey for holidays, P-traps to keep sewage smells from coming into the house, water cisterns that are sealed and do not have rain water or sewage leaks contaminating them due to poor design, water flooding due to heavy rain, etc.). 99% of houses are multi-level and tend to be larger than smaller, though layouts do not always make the best use of space. Storage space is limited. Commute is anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic. - Aug 2022
Good housing. Big houses, some with nice yards. All houses are in closed communities, all with pools and play structures for the kids. My commute time is a whopping 12 minutes! Definitely a highlight of post. - Aug 2015

Housing, while perhaps not up to U.S. building code, tends to be spacious and nice. Commuting time for those accustomed to the horrors of the DC metro area will seem trivial, 20-30 minutes max. - Dec 2009
Housing varies from very upscale to apartment living. Commute times rarely exceed 30 minutes depending on routes and exactly how much of the city you need to traverse. - Feb 2008
