What kind of vehicle(s) including electric ones do you recommend bringing to post, given the terrain, infrastructure, availability of parts, burglary/carjacking risks, etc.? What kind of car or vehicles do you advise not to bring?
Electric vehicles are extremely popular with locals, and the city has moved to all electric vehicles for taxis and buses and chargers are plentiful. The city does have rolling blackouts and charging times have been limited lately for locals. 4-wheel drive and high-clearance is required for travel even 30 minutes outside of the city (and sometimes even within the capital). It is quicker to purchase an expat vehicle, as shipping a vehicle form the U.S. can take 6 months and the registration process takes several more weeks. - Dec 2025
