Canberra - Post Report Question and Answers

Would someone with physical disabilities have difficulties living in this city?

There are ramps and lifts. Some braille signage. Public transit has accessible seating though often no audible stop announcements. Sometimes the older suburbs and buildings haven't been updated and it could be an issue. The US embassy has stairgliders retrofitted to cramped 1940s stairwells, and some pretty steep hills. IMO not ideal. - May 2023

I'm not sure, but I would think people who are differently abled would be just fine - the Australians are pretty cognizant of making sure everyone can participate. - Aug 2020

None, this town is really well set up for that. - May 2012

No more than in the average U.S. city. - May 2011

None! - Dec 2010

None whatsoever. This is probably the most handicap-friendly country in the world. - Apr 2010

None. The infrastructures here are well equipped with handicapped-accessible parking spaces, ramps, elevators, etc. - Oct 2009

Depends...our neighborhood has no sidewalks and in many stores the doors are not wheelcair friendly. I think the downtown part of the city would be fine. - Apr 2009
