What is the availability and cost of household help, and what types of help are typically employed by expatriates?

Labor costs in Berlin are quite high as compared to other places you may be/have been posted, and this definitely impacts the availability and cost of all types of household help. It's not too challenging to find a housekeeper, but finding child care help has been a real struggle for many families we know. If you know in advance that you may need either live-in or part-time child care assistance, I would strongly suggest starting the search well before you arrive. This is doubly true if you have more than one child or a child with any sort of special needs. - Aug 2023


Some people have part time nannies and housekeepers, but it's relatively expensive here. Babysitters are reasonable at around 10 - 15 euros per hour. - May 2018


Local help is on the Euro, obviously. Cleaners are about 10-12 Euro/hour. As are baby sitters. - Feb 2018
