Manama - Post Report Question and Answers

Would someone with physical disabilities have difficulties living in this city?

Definitely - no transportation, bad sidewalks, Arabs don't walk anywhere because it's too hot, so if you can't drive yourself you're not going anywhere. - Apr 2017

Yes. It is not handicapped accessible at all. - Nov 2015

Yes. There are few sidewalks, and where there sidewalks, cars are driving or parked on sidewalks. Most old buildings don't have elevators - Aug 2014

It’s better than in a developing country, but you still don’t find the same accommodation that we have in the States. Ramps are rare, but elevators are common. Sidewalks, when existent, are very inconvenient. - Sep 2012

Not as many as in other places I've been, but it wouldn't be easy here, particularly in the older parts of the island. - Apr 2010

It would be difficult but not terribly so. There are some ramps and elevators. - Jun 2009

Without a car hard to get around for anyone, otherwise they are getting more and more considerate in making ramps etc. - Dec 2008

Many difficulties. If Manama can't remember to put parking spaces in their building plans, then they won't remember to put handicap features. Also, I've had quite a few elevators close on me - no safety features! - Aug 2008
