What kinds of organic, vegetarian and allergy-friendly foods are available, such as organic produce, gluten-free products, meat substitutes for vegetarians, etc?

Organic? Don't know. Just make sure that your domestic helper washes your fruits and vegetables properly. The embassy has classes every so often to teach housekeepers how to disinfect food. Ask the health unit when you arrive for the next date. - May 2011
No restaurants for vegetarians. The food is very basic and if you want fresh you can go to "plazas de mercado" little markets in the streets to buy fruits and vegetables. - May 2011
I'm not sure about gluten-free products and meat substitutes here. Most everything is bought fresh, including meat, poultry and fruits and vegetables. - Mar 2011
