Luxembourg City - Post Report Question and Answers

Are there any particular health concerns? What is the quality of available medical care? What medical conditions typically require medical evacuation?

No health concerns. Doctors are knowledgable and plentiful. There is a new hospital where pretty much anything you need can get taken care of however for major surgical operations it is often still recommended to travel to France, Germany, or Switzerland since Luxembourg does not have a long history of doing this work in-house. This is slowly changing and things like labor/delivery of children, knee and ankle repairs, etc. are done routinely and performed well. - Jun 2017

For major health issues, you might need to turn to specialists in the larger border towns like Trier (45 minutes away). Lux is so small that it doesn't have all the specialists. - Mar 2016

There is a fully developed medical system although one often hears odd stories about medical treatment. - Aug 2012

No health concerns. Medical care is very good - some cultural differences (take a long t-shirt when you go for your physical - they don't provide gowns). - Sep 2011

Local health care is excellent. We have the national insurance (and a supplemental coverage which picks up the difference . . . very reasonably priced, too). You get reimbursed by the insurance companies if the cost isn't paid in full in most cases. Husband spent ten days in hospital after surgery for a broken arm: no charge. Care was excellent. I have also seen a local dentist, and we have a local GP. I don't wait to take care of health issues while in the US anymore. This is cheaper and better. - Sep 2010

None - good health care is readily available. - Apr 2010

OK, but it's European national health care, so don't be too sick. - Oct 2009
