Is it easy to make friends with locals here? Are there any prejudices or any ethnic groups who might feel uncomfortable here?

It can be hard to make friends with locals, especially the locals who have never lived outside of India. Indian Americans (or other expats of Indian descent, whether or not they have lived in India previously) may face more prejudices, especially by local security guards or others. - May 2023

No. The only local friends I've made are the ones I work with. Locals are extremely friendly once you get to know them. It's difficult to break into any new groups in India as the locals do not seem very friendly to start with. In my opinion, not very likely that you'll make any friends at the bars. It's a lot easier with apps and with other expats. - Aug 2021
Not too easy to make friends with locals. There is a language barrier with many locals. People also tend to exchange contact with me and never follow up with hanging out. - Nov 2020
Incredibly easy to make friends with locals. They will bend over backwards to provide hospitality to you or include you in a special celebration. It’s one of my favorite things about India. - Aug 2019
I found everyone to be extremely welcoming, and I visited many at their homes. Even walking down the street for festivals, I was often invited in. Mumbai is so dense, that everyone lives close together, and there are constant social interactions. - Mar 2019
